Well that week was one of the fastest ever. Following on from Previous blog post.
During the next couple of days Pete Walkden, Ian Cook, Neil Grubb and Kate Macrae, managed to get superb photos of otters and orcas and more and more shots of birds. Our second trip to Fetlar even through in sighting of dolphins.
We had the most amazing night over to Mousa to see the Storm Petrels at midnight, as someone living on Shetland I could not believe the luck they had with the weather, even the ferryman said it was almost to good. The night was calm the moon was out and even at midnight the sky was orange from the setting sun. We saw the Storm Petrels come and go at midnight and returned home going on two in the morning.
The next day we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the island with a packed lunch making time to photograph guillemots, shags, fulmars, red throated divers and even a small wheatear. Pete was especially happy with the sightings of the Red Throated divers who were not bothered at all by the size of the lenses looking down on them, infact they closed their eyes tucked in and went to sleep at one point.
The tour also enjoyed a boat trip around Bressay and Noss on the Dunter III, they had great views of Gannets and Great Skuas, seals and I would imagine a few other little Shetland treasures were thrown in. As I suffer from Sea Sickness I sent away to do some work and caught up with the three hours later.
We enjoyed a good week together, a memory I will always treasure, I look forward to welcoming the group back into my home, well anytime they want.
For a fuller picture of the week, I urge you to log onto www.wildlifekate.co.uk for incredible pictures by the group and footage of otters and orcas taken by Ian Cook, Bushnell footage by Kate Macrae. I believe shortly you may hear recordings of a sedge warbler and nesting storm petrels.

Comment by Peter Walkden on August 8, 2011 at 21:46 Paula - I've finally finished my entries for Shetland on my Blog (http://petesbirdingblog.blogspot.com/) if you're interested?
Still got loads of images to process though - just selected odd ones for the Blog, but have variations left over, plus things that just didn't make it on to the Blog.
