Oyster Catchers Nest

hello,

 

As mentioned in my ealier post i have been keeping watch of a family of swans from my balcony... whilst watching this new family i kept noticing the noisy oyster catchers landing on a building opposite and running along before dropping something and then taking off again, this happened again and again?

Swans finally hatch!!

Hello,

 

following on from my last post the pair of swans outside my apartment managed to rebuild their nest, the female soon started laying and 9 eggs later she began the long brooding process. yay!

The male became very aggressive protecting his mate and new eggs, nothing was tolerated by the nest... as a rogue passing swan soon found out when it swam unknowingly towards the nest! There was quite a bit of splashing until both the intruder and male flew back down the…

Mute swans

 

What started last year as just a "ah look the swans got babies..."when i moved into my apartment has developed into an obsession!!

 

Iv followed a Male and Female Mute Swan since last summer, They hatched 7 cygnets and i watched as they raised (and lost  some of) their brood. They were left with 3 which left just befor winter apart from one...the smallest one. This one stayed with them all through winter right untill just a few weeks ago.
