Missing Simon King and the Red Deer on the Isle of Rum? Take a look at the Autumnwatch Flickr group website page. Paul Cairney has taken some really good Isle of Rum pictures. Not just the Red…Continue

When my wife and I visited Richmond Park on Saturday 9 October 2010 we learned a vital lesson when watching red deer, or any other type of deer for that matter. It is very important to keep your…Continue

My wife and I visited Essex Wildlife Trust's Abberton Reservoir today, Thursday 19 January 2012. At the Visitor Centre we were treated to incredibly close up views of blue and great tits and chaffinches feeding at the seed and nut dispensers.

Today was our final full day in Shetland. What better way to conclude our trip here than to join Simon King, Brydon Thomason and their team on a trip to Muckle Flugga, its lighthouse and the Out Stack, the most northernmost point in the Shetland Islands and in Britain. The day started on a cloudy and drizzly note although it was forecast later for a very sunny day with barely any cloud in the sky.…

After a good night's sleep, we enjoyed breakfast without the need for cooking or washing up. But we understood that was not going to last too much longer as we only have a couple of days left in these northern isles plus most of Monday. Although there was a feeling our journey here was soon coming to an end there's still much more to enjoy. …

The overnight camp in the car close to Norwick Beach brought more sleep than expected. Whenever awake we enjoyed the twilight sea views, the sound of the sea and wind. At about 6am the wind picked up further causing the car to rock just a little, causing me to wake up. Whilst Catherine was still asleep I got out of the car to stretch my legs but was not alone as I walked along the shoreline. …

Nat & Dave Hall said… Thank you for the invit' to your group, Michael :-)
Nat & Dave Hall said… Otters are, like the rest of the dwellers of the natural world, pure moments of magic, Michael! Nature, so Wagnerian! I photograph whenever I can is the best answer :-). An encounter remains above all all a privileged moment, just like all other living creature. Time & luck are paramount for such exercise.
Austin Taylor said… Hi Michael, many thanks for your kind words. I really should post more on here but never seem to have enough time - it's all I can do to keep my website and blog up to date! Yes, I know Paula, you'll have a great time staying with her and Magnus and I hope to meet you.
Nat & Dave Hall said… Yep, ok :-))
Nat & Dave Hall said… Oh, dear, am not sure what it means, although have fallen in love with the site and sharing the natural world is a fabulous thing to do! :-)
Nat & Dave Hall said… Thank you, dear friend, will add as we tilt back to the light, and closer to your return :-) N x
Nat & Dave Hall said… Wow, hello, Michael, where do I start? THANK YOU for all your feedback tonight! Thank you for your very generous comments :-) Please forgive us if we respond this way! Just about to upload our 10s for the day. Yes, Ninian was majestically wild today, especially as high tide denied us passage to the isle! Was great though! Found another (brittled) shell of Arctica Islandica, the world's longest living animal on Earth! Conchology is one of our thing and beach combing after a storm is great fun! Kindest regards, N x
Nat & Dave Hall said… THANK YOU for your precious advice and effort to help us upload our very first piece of footage (very modest one, as a start!) but at least, I wanted to share this power of the North Atlantic (just after a storm!) which remains an integral part of the natural world :-))
Thank you for your help & advice, Michael. It is greatly appreciated :-) N x
Nat & Dave Hall said… Thank you very kindly for accepting it here too, Michael! Looking forward to meeting you next summer when you return to our shores! Nat
