Goose ID

Hi guys, I saw this goose at the London Wetland Centre a few days ago and I'm slightly confused as to what it may be.  It's obviously not any of our native species so I was wondering if it is a hybrid Greylag/Domestic goose. It was quite 'bulky' and about the same as a greylag and bigger than the Canada geese that where luckily nearby for comparison.ThanksMattSee More

"Fantastic news indeed Val and a superb shot of these magnificent birds! I was lucky enough to get quite close to resident Ospreys in Egypt on holiday last year - having on them on the doorstep must but a bit of a distraction? - I don't think I…"

Grey Red Fox !

"This pic does look a bit desaturated but as it was so dark I think Gill has just lightened it so you can see the colour (or lack of) better. Here's the original image."

Grey Red Fox !

"Thanks for posting my photo Gill. This was just uploaded from the camera and cropped. It really was that grey as you remember - very unusual but I'd imagine better camouflage in this weather."

Autumn Wildlife Watching

Autumn is a spectacular time of year both for the wonderful colours of nature and the wealth of wildlife to be seen. Lets share our experiences and encourage other members to get out there and enjoy the sights (and sounds!) of this glorious season.

Phil replied to Matt Preece's discussion Bird ID help please
"That would be correct. In their Autumn plumage, they are more yellow and the eyestripe appears not to go beheind the eye as much."

"Cheers Phil - More conformation on my initial thought. I have photographed Chiffchaffs on this site before but (looking back at the metadata) never this early in the season as all the other shots are of a much more olivey/yellow bird."

Phil replied to Matt Preece's discussion Bird ID help please
"I am 99% sure it is a Chiffchaff. What you have photographed is a beautiful one, in its Spring plumage, in Autumn, they are slightly more yellow from what I have seen at the reserve I visit."

"Thanks - yeah I have a problem finding them in the frame too - I'm using a 100-300 lens on my EX3 which has a 5.4 crop factor, so even fully wide it's like a telescope in the viewfinder!"
