Thanks for all your kind comments on my spider-photos Kate.
To answer your first question above - the four british species were all photographed around the garden and house in Berkshire. The Marpissa muscosa (fence-post jumping spider) lives mainly in the south and east of the UK, but the others (especially the zebra spider and house-jumping spider) are widespread over the uk - but they are very small (see my photo of a spider next to a match head for scale), so you really have to look hard to find them!
To answer your second question - I took all these shots with a bridge camera (a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ20 or a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ50 combined with a clip-on (£25) Raynox DCR 150 macro filter - very cheap and very workable!
