Not sure if anyone else has noticed this or if it's just in the fenland area I live, but up until September even after the harvest I was seeing Hares everyday including the wheat field behind my house (7 in the field at once!) For the last five weeks though not one and I travel along backroads where normally I would see several on my journey to work (around 6:30) and again they seemed to have vanished. Has anyone else come across this or does anyone know why?

I'll let you know when I start my winter (short-eared owl) walks on the pastures round 'ere Mark.
I should see many then?
Umm hope you do. Just makes you wonder what has happened to them at the moment. Short-eared owls! I hope you post some of the images here. I'm now looking forward to watching Barn Owls - who says the dark mornings and evenings are bad!
I haven't really taken any photos of owls Mark - too busy just enjoying them if I see them!
Good luck seeing your barn owls!
And I'll keep an eye open for hares for you. I hope I see em too!

This year I struggled to find hares to film. I had loads of site suggestions from people but views were few and far between. These were filmed in April http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBaldIbis?feature=mhum#p/c/28C2E00156...

Thanks for sharing the great footage Stephen. Speaking with a farm worker acquaintance and they are about just hunkered down in the fields. I was hoping for some snow to go and track them but as yet we have none!

Hi Charles, thanks for the reply. I've since found out that here in the Fens in February they hold two hare shoots and leave what they think is a reasonable amount. I've now found a great place nearby where hares seem to be in good numbers.
