Osprey Update 2011

Sorry that I have been absent for a while. The osprey nest near my home blew down in gales last September but with help of Forestry Commission it has now been rebuilt.
I will update if my pair XL & M return.

It is now healing well & did not prevent him from hunting successfully although I would say some of the fish were smaller than he would usually catch. XL is looking settled on the nest & M has incubated the eggs while XL has eaten so all behaviour is normal & the wound was supperficial.

thanks for the update. It's good to hear &see M is recovering from his injury. It was probably not as worse as it looked.

So pleased to report that 1st chick has hatched at osprey hq. Hatch was late Friday but could not confirm until Saturday morning when female (XL) was eating at nest & feeding tiny pieces into nest. After all obsticles of rebuilding nest, horrendous weather & intruders (both feathered & human) I am over the moon. Male (M) has provided a good supply of trout & a pike last night & delivered them straight to the nest.

thanks for the update. I'm quite jealous (in a positive way ;-) ) Wish I had an Osprey nest in my neighbourhood.

thanks again for the update.

I read in your post that XL was breaking off branches, I didn't know they did that! Nice!

Also some (possible) sad news about the second chick. Hopefully it is just keeping a low profile..
