Sorry that I have been absent for a while. The osprey nest near my home blew down in gales last September but with help of Forestry Commission it has now been rebuilt.
I will update if my pair XL & M return.
A link to the nest for info is here...

Please let me know if I have put this in wrong section

Hi Val

Hurrah!!!! I was hoping you were going to keep us updated on your lovely Ospreys - brilliant!!!

The newly rebuilt nest is fabulous - quite a piece of art actually :-)

Now have fingers crossed and waiting patiently for news of any arrivals.

Do you want me to move your topic to Birds section since it is an ongoing topic?

Catch you later

Gill

Yes please Gill!
Good to see you here!
The ravens have been eying up the handy work -as they did last year but if pair return it doesn't take long before they are sent packing! Last year the ravens eventually nested on other side of river.
Lots of raptor activity locally so hope to have more reports soon

Good to see you here too Val :-)

Topic now moved to Birds section.

:-)

Totally thrilled to confirm that female osprey XL is home! I am writing this from my usual spot & she is totally accepting my presence! Male was also spotted at nest this morning by o/h. I have not seen him yet as I was on way back from Arran.
Fingers crossed now that XL will begin to add sticks to nest we have built but will have to wait & see

In 2 minutes since I typed above 2nd female just flew into next stand of trees. She is ringed but due to glare cannot make out if it is White or yellow. It is on left leg. XL making warning but not aggressive-yet! Other female totally relaxed too-maybe chick from a brood in years past.
More soon

Ecstatic Val :)

Fantastic news indeed Val and a superb shot of these magnificent birds!

I was lucky enough to get quite close to resident Ospreys in Egypt on holiday last year - having on them on the doorstep must but a bit of a distraction? - I don't think I could drag myself off to work ;-)

Please keep us updated.

I have added some more pictures from yesterday...

Just a wee note to confirm that osprey pair XL & M have an egg produced on 20th. I also believe there is a second today.

Any news?

Loved the pictures & posts  till now, but been quiet for a bit now. Are the Ospreys doing allright?

Hello Frans

Yes ospreys are fine! Sorry for no updates - I have been on nest watch day & night if I cannot get anyone to cover so not been at computer much.

There was a worrying incident last week when M, the male, had an injury to his chest. It is now healing well & did not prevent him from hunting successfully although I would say some of the fish were smaller than he would usually catch. XL is looking settled on the nest & M has incubated the eggs while XL has eaten so all behaviour is normal & the wound was supperficial.
