As members of AWFN we all come here for many different things and for many different reasons and whilst a great many of us are here to learn, many are also here just to share their endeavours. With such a variation in hopes and wants it is possible that sometimes we don't get quite what we hope or want.

So this thread is here to try and help do a bit of sorting of some of those possible wants/needs by allowing you to give permission for the rest of the members to critique your work in your galleries; its no guarantee that you will get critique nor is it a guarantee of quality or content. It is simply an organised way for you to say that you would welcome people to give their thoughts and (hopefully) some advice on how you can improve your works. To say that you would not mind having an image in your galleries critically viewed.

I would also encourage you that if you do hope for critical views to make full use of the comments section when you upload an image - use it to take a moment to maybe say a little about it or list the setup you used to capture it. It might also be advisable that (if you take part in this scheme) you also note if a shot really is just for fun/showing and you know it has (possibly) many faults; just so as you don't get people being critical of just your fun works or record shots etc...

I will also remind people that we have photography and film sections in the forum and you can also use those to post images with the intent of getting feedback and such is a great way to help get input in a direct way on one (or more) of your works. It is also an option for those who might not want their entire gallery uploads open to possible critique, but who still want to get input into select works.

Further for those who might wish to just share and not have any comments on your work you are fully free to do so and if you go to the site settings menu and then to privacy you can turn off comments for your uploads.

So cast your view :)

NOTE: this thread is dealing with your photographic uploads to the site and not your film/video - there is a separate thread in the film making section

This is a great idea Alexander. I'd certainly be pleased to have a critique of the images that I've added so far. I joined primarily, to be part of a network where I could learn to improve my photographic skills and to get ideas and inspiration for different types of images. Also, I'm off for a few days to North Wales (near Llanbedrog) this weekend. Anyone know of any good photographic opportunities there this time of year?
Good idea Alexander. I'm happy for anyone to say whatever they like about my photos. I know mine have many faults but it's interesting to get other peoples views - good or bad. I agree that sometimes photos are just to capture some interesting behaviour (and sometimes these aren't the best "technical" shots but are still great) or are a record shot, and other times you hope to have taken a really good technical and asthetic shot. I'm ready and waiting to hear what people think of mine.... I think...
Hi Ed,
If the sun shines (even if it feels pretty cold), look out for basking male adders freshly emerged from their hibernacula. From now to April is the best time so see them in numbers before they disperse and seek out the females (who emerge a bit later), so if you see one, there'll be others around. Avoid casting a shadow/silhouette, and keep low to the ground (but watch where you sit/lie!). If one sees you first and slips away, sit still for 10 minutes or so and he should re-emerge.
I suspected it was a good area for adders, but Googled just in case and found this:

'April 20th - A man was bitten by an adder near Llanbedrog beach. He was on a treasure hunt with his family when he saw three adders and picked one of them up. He was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd and given anti-venom.'

Doh!
Excellent idea i am happy for any comments on my photos good or bad which hopefully will help me improve my photography
especialy the post processing for the web.
Thanks for the tip Patrick. I'll report back next week; hopefully not from Gwynedd Hospital!
Thanks Alex
I'm happy for comments good or bad - always happy to have some guidance on photography.
Would love comments on my photos, I am a real novice at the photography stuff and learning as i go, although I have been a lover of the great wildlife in Norfolk all my life.
Didn't see any adders, although I did specifically look out for them. We stayed in a converted boathouse overlooking the sea and was able to get some decent shots of curlew from the balcony. If I ventured onto the beach they flew off well beyond the range of my 400mm lens! Also got a shot of some turnstones. There was a group of red-breasted mergansers feeding in the bay, but too far off for photography.

Hi I too would appreciate some input on my photos, thanks for the Idea.
Honest, constructive critique of photographs is a VERY good idea! I'm afraid to say I tire very quickly of standard sugary comments on some of my photos like - wow! Great composition! etc... when I know very well that the composition or shot is pretty poor really. Helpful suggestions to improve all our photos would be really appreciated!
Critique is a really difficult subject. I remember at college the weekly critique was dreaded by most of the students. The trouble is that everyones views are so different. Actually that's probably a really good thing. I've had critiques saying "wow, great composition" for a photo I don't like much - but then when I've pushed them they've explained why they think it's a great composition - and it's something I just haven't seen in the picture. So, I think I'd also ask that people put WHY they like it or don't like it.
Thats a fair comment Jane - but I find generally people are quite often petrified of giving any critique, in order to avoid the potential of offending anyone.
Its PC gone mad I tells ya! (yadda yadda yadda)!
