I've just about had enough of Bill & his Gates & at my age Microsoft has a whole new meaning!
Only ever eaten one big Mac in my life so decided it was time to have another but an iMac this time,
Less fat! Less blocked arteries!
I just got fed up with updates from every Tom, Dick & Harriet & each one causing a fight with the others!
Anyone here using a Mac that wouldn't mind the occasional PM for advice?

Permalink Reply by Ron Jackson on June 30, 2011 at 6:22 I've got a two year old iMac with Final Cut Pro installed along with iMovie 09 (free application that came with the iMac) Final Cut Express which I paid for but have never used and iMovie HD 06 , old, as you can see from the name, but my favourite for editing HDV from tape.
I'm still near the bottom of the learning curve with FCP, which I need to edit stuff recorded in XDCAM. There is a new version of FCP just released, relatively cheap, and which is causing the "pros" a lot of grief but which looks v good for amateurs like me, particularly if you've been using iMovie.
Just watch the screen size if you get an iMac. I got a 24 incher which too big for my workspace I subsequently found. RSS!

Permalink Reply by Catherine Dyason on October 24, 2011 at 16:01 I love Mac. I would get one. It is working a lot better than my old PC that is always playing up. :)
The only problem that I can think of at the moment is if you forget to switch the mouse or keyboard on. It won't work if you forget to do this.
Thanks for all the offers of help.
I'm still having problems!
Since my original post, I have been very ill, in & out of a coma for a couple of weeks
I'm only now getting to grips with the Mac.
I think my biggest problem is still thinking Widows.
There are a number of things I'm still not up to speed with..... Files are my biggest problem!
I like to file folders in to files that are in files, lets say I want to find a photo of an Elephant that I took in Zimbabwe in 2008.
With windows it would be in my Documents - Photo's - Trips - Zimbabwe - 2008 - Elephants ..... now I have no idea where it is, all is OK if I save a file in the same place it came from but for a new file I only have a choice of a main folders & not the sub folders.
So I save it to desktop then open the file where I want to store it then drag & drop.
there has to be an easier way but as yet i've not found it!!
Ha! Ha! Ha! Otherwise the Mac is a fantastic tool & it has overcome all the problems I was having with Windows but it has just given me a few different ones!
Permalink Reply by Dan Carrington on April 5, 2012 at 20:38 Just bought myself a Macbook Pro- getting to know the machine at minute. Was wondering if there were wildlife related apps available for the Mac as they all seem to be only compatible with iPad or iPhone which is rather dissapointing. Any help much appreciated.
Permalink Reply by Dan Carrington on April 6, 2012 at 19:01 Thanks for this Charles- i was hoping to use field guide apps for flowers and insects etc but am happy to stick with old fashioned books out in the field ( served me well so far !). I have only had the Mac for 2 days but very impressed so far and looking forward to using it to it's full potential- as a friend told me ' Once you go Mac you won't go back' :)
As I started this thread I'd like to add that I also bought a Macbook Pro this week.
Originally I intended to buy a cheap laptop for talks & presentations for my business, but decided to invest in another Mac.
Past experience has always taught me to buy at least one step above your intended use.
Hmmmmmm!
But!
I still have file problems!!!!!
Decided it must be because I'm a horder, my computer is my "Man Cave"
Permalink Reply by Dan Carrington on April 7, 2012 at 14:41 Hi Charles- i have installed Office: Mac as i didn't want to have to figure out the Mac versions ( Pages etc) which is great as i know what i'm doing with these. I think an iPod is the way forward for the field- my kids already have them and they are so easy to use- any problems i'll just ask the kids!
I have i photo and i movies installed as standard- can you recommend any other good programmes that will help in editing photo/video?
Looks like you're turning into TW's resident Mac expert and grateful for it i am too!
Dan:)
